چکیده

The instrumentation and performance of the new infrared beamline U12IR at the National Synchrotron Light Source of Brookhaven National Laboratory is described. This beamline utilizes infrared synchrotron radiation from a bending magnet. A combination of beamline design features and spectroscopic instrumentation allows the facility to reach the extremely low frequency limit of ;2 cm ~i.e., 60 GHz or a photon energy of 250 meV!. The infrared light from the synchrotron emission at U12IR is compared to standard thermal sources and reveals substantial benefits for the study of small samples. In particular, the intensity of the synchrotron radiation in the far infrared can be as much as 200 times greater than that from a blackbody when millimeter-sized samples are measured. The effects of diffraction and noise on beamline performance are also discussed. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~99!02407-7#

Time-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy on the U12IR Beamline at the NSLS

A facility for performing time-resolved infrared spectroscopy has been developed at the NSLS, primarily at beamline U12IR. The pulsed IR light from the synchrotron is used to perform pump-probe spectroscopy. We present here a description of the facility and results for the relaxation of photoexcitations in both a semiconductor and superconductor.

High-resolution far-infrared spectroscopy at NSLS beamline U12IR

A Bruker model IFS 125HR Fourier transform interferometer has been installed and its performance tested using high-brightness, far-infrared synchrotron radiation. Results of absorption measurements for the rotational modes of water vapor demonstrate a nearly 10-fold improvement in signal-to-noise when compared with the instrument’s internal high-pressure Hg arc lamp source. 2008 Published by El...

The First Synchrotron Infrared Beamlines at the Advanced Light Source: Microscpectroscopy and Fast Timing

A set of new infrared (IR) beamlines on the 1.4 bending magnet port at the Advanced Light Source, LBNL, are described. Using a synchrotron as an IR source provides considerable brightness advantages, which manifests itself most beneficially when performing spectroscopy on a microscopic length scale. Beamline (BL) 1.4.3 is a dedicated microspectroscopy beamline, where the much smaller focused sp...

Spatial resolution limits for synchrotron-based spectromicroscopy in the mid- and near-infrared.

Spatial resolution tests were performed on beamline 1.4.4 at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley, CA, USA, a third-generation synchrotron light source. This beamline couples the high-brightness synchrotron source to a Thermo-Electron Continumicrom XL infrared microscope. Two types of resolution tests were performed in both the mid-IR and near-IR. The results are compared with a diffraction-li...

A SURF beamline for synchrotron source-based absolute radiometry

A new source-based radiometry beamline was recently constructed at the Synchrotron Ultraviolet Radiation Facility (SURF III). The goal of this beamline is to establish a national source standard with a wide spectral range from the far ultraviolet to the infrared by using the calculability of SURF III. The new beamline is a straight-through white-light beamline with few, if any, optical componen...
